Welcome to Aria web design.

Interested in building a website? You’ve come to the right place.

From personal experience setting up a website can be very daunting . Cyber space is limitless and largely uncharted. Its understandable that people feel vulnerable when creating a digital identity, then learning to navigate themselves confidently within this unknown domain.

However, with some key information and planning using the ‘web mapping’ tool, the process shouldn’t be so overwhelming.

Lets get started…

The web map will help you:

• identify the purpose of your website
• create a online identity/brand/image
• develop creative content

Once you have completed the ‘web map’ template, it will help me:

Determine a creative process that best achieves your websites desired function

How long it will take to design and if a creative team is needed to develop it? A customised site requires a computer programmer and a graphic designer. Where a basic website using templates provided by WordPress (website software) can be developed without a team.

Here are a few important elements of web design to consider. Once you’ve done this, use the web map template to layout your web design ideas and we’ll progress from there.

Happy web mapping!

Purpose

Decide what your web visitors are looking for? Information, entertainment, some type of interaction – or to transact with your business?

Make it clear what your goals are for the site

Who your target market is

What look would appeal to them

Domain name

This is the address people will type into their internet browser to find your website.

You can have as many names as you like all linking bcak to your business website.

To find out if a domain name is already taken, type it into your browser. If nothing comes up then the domain name is available.

To become a domain name owner you’ll need to pay a domain name register. I recommend Ninga Web Host (NWH) for competitive plans and pricing. Cost from $80 – $100 per year.

Your domain name can be used as your email address linked to your business website – the main form of contact for customers.

Hosting

A website must be ‘hosted’ befoe it can be used. this means the site needs to be put on a computer called a ‘server’ which is always connected to the internet. When people come to your website the ‘server’ serves them the pages from your site.

Web hosting will cost around $100 per year.

Logo

Your website is the face of your business – make sure it fits with your desired brand image.

Decide what visual elements you’ld like your logo to represent. Consider symbols, colour and font that best describes your business visually.

Visuals

To avoid potential IP (intellectual property) issues I recommend taking your own phto’s whenever possible. If nt, always reference visuals eg where they came from.

Create a visual library folder

You will need images of high resolution, 1000 dps and above is recommended.

Unsplash.com is a site you can access free stock photo’s/images from if your stuck.

Narrative

Provide content/written material to accompany your website.

This could be a profile or description.

A story or whakatauki

An article

Anything you want that supports the purpose of the website

Pages

A basic website will have the following pages although can be named whatever you like.

Home page: This has your website name, an image, and/or your logo. This is also where you will find the website menu that navigates users around the site.

About us: Here you will introduce your business eg vision, profile, services and products

Shop: This is where transactions are made through paypal so a suitable bank account to be provided.

Contacts: This is where people can contact you directly.

This can cost between $300 – $1000 to set up.
